Privacy Policy

userclip is a desktop application that turns long recordings into short clips. It runs on your computer. This policy describes what it does with your data, and separately what this website does.

The short version: userclip has no server, no account system, and no analytics. Your recordings, transcripts, and clips are processed on your own machine and are never sent to us, because there is nowhere to send them. The application makes network requests in exactly two situations, and you start both of them.

1. Who we are

userclip is an independent project. In this policy, "userclip", "we", and "us" refer to the project and its maintainer. "You" refers to the person using the application or visiting this website.

Because the application has no backend service, the maintainer is not a processor of your recordings in any technical sense: we never receive them.

2. What we collect

From the application: nothing. userclip contains no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no usage measurement, no advertising identifiers, and no account system. There is no server operated by this project for the application to talk to.

Specifically, none of the following is transmitted to us at any point:

• Video or audio you import, record, or export
• Transcripts, captions, titles, or any text generated from your media
• Your settings, folder paths, or file names
• Your hardware details, operating system, or IP address
• Whether or how often you use the application
• Access tokens for any platform you connect

3. Data stored on your device

userclip stores everything locally, in folders you choose during setup and in its own application data directory. You can open every one of these from Settings, under Privacy and Data.

Access tokens are stored unencrypted, in the same local database as everything else. userclip does not use the operating system keychain. Anyone with access to your user account on your computer can read them, in the same way they could read your other local files. We state this plainly rather than implying protection that is not there. If that matters for your situation, use full disk encryption and do not connect platforms on a shared machine.

4. When userclip uses the network

The application makes outbound requests in exactly two situations, both started by you. It makes none in the background, none at startup, and none while it is processing your video.

4.1 Downloading models

When you choose to download AI models, userclip fetches them from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and, for some components, from the publisher's own download URL. These requests transfer the model files to you. They necessarily reveal your IP address to those hosts, and are governed by their privacy policies, not this one. No information about your projects, media, or settings is included in the request.

You may avoid this entirely: userclip supports fully offline installation by fetching models on another machine and importing the folder.

4.2 Publishing a clip

If you connect a platform and schedule a clip, userclip uploads that specific clip file to that specific platform at the time you scheduled. That upload goes directly from your machine to the platform. It does not pass through us.

Nothing is uploaded unless you have connected an account and scheduled or manually sent a clip. Disconnecting a platform, or scheduling nothing, means no upload ever occurs.

5. Connected platforms

userclip can connect to YouTube, TikTok, X, and Instagram. Connecting uses each platform's own OAuth sign in, opened in your normal web browser. userclip never sees or stores your password for any platform.

userclip signs you in through its own registered application on each platform. You do not need a developer account. You press Connect, the platform's own sign in page opens in your browser, and you decide there what access to grant. userclip never sees your password.

Once connected, the tokens are stored on your device as described above and are used only to upload clips you scheduled and, on some platforms, to read your account or channel name so the interface can display it.

Anything you post is then subject to that platform's own terms and privacy policy. To revoke userclip's access, use the platform's own security settings:

• Google and YouTube: Third party apps with account access
• TikTok: Settings, Security, Manage app permissions
• X: Settings, Security and account access, Apps and sessions
• Instagram and Facebook: Settings, Apps and websites

Disconnecting inside userclip deletes the stored token from your device. It does not revoke the grant on the platform. Use the links above to do that.

6. This website

userclip.lol is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no trackers, and loads no third party fonts, scripts, or resources. The typeface is served from this domain for that reason.

GitHub, as the host, records standard server information for security and abuse prevention, which can include your IP address and browser user agent. That processing is GitHub's and is covered by the GitHub Privacy Statement. We do not have access to those logs and receive no reporting from them.

Links out to GitHub or to platform documentation are ordinary links. Following one puts you on that site under its own policy.

7. Retention and deletion

We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Everything userclip creates lives on your computer, and you control it completely.

To remove it:

• Settings, Privacy and Data, Delete everything removes the database, your settings, projects, and logs, behind a typed confirmation. It optionally removes exported clips, raw clips, and the replay buffer too.
• Settings, Accounts, Disconnect removes a stored platform token.
• Uninstalling the application, then deleting the folders you chose, removes the rest.

8. Your rights

Data protection law, including the GDPR and the CCPA, gives people rights to access, correct, export, and delete personal data held about them by a company.

Those rights are satisfied here by construction rather than by a request process: we hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing to access, export, or erase. Your own copy is on your own device, and the application gives you direct tools to read, export, and destroy all of it. We do not sell or share personal information, because we have none.

9. Children

userclip is a video production tool intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, as described throughout this policy.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be published at this address with a new effective date. Material changes to how the application uses the network will also be described in the release notes for the version that introduces them.
