Terms of Service

Effective 27 July 2026

These terms cover your use of the userclip desktop application and the userclip.lol website. userclip is free software that runs on your own computer. There is no subscription, no account, and no service operated on your behalf.

1. Accepting these terms

By downloading, installing, or using userclip, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the application. You may stop at any time by uninstalling it; nothing further is owed by either side.

2. Your licence to use userclip

userclip is free to download and use. We grant you a personal, worldwide, non exclusive licence to install and run it on machines you control, for personal or commercial work. You do not owe us a fee, a credit, or a share of anything you make with it.

The application is not open source. We keep all rights in the software itself. Please do not decompile, reverse engineer, or redistribute modified copies, except where the law where you live says you may regardless of what this document asks.

The name "userclip" and the project's branding are ours. Please do not use them in a way that suggests we made or endorsed something we did not.

3. Your content is yours

We claim no ownership of, and no licence over, anything you import into userclip or anything it produces. Your recordings, transcripts, clips, and exports are yours entirely.

Because the application has no server, we never receive your content and could not make a claim over it even if we wanted to. Nothing of ours is embedded in your exports: no watermark, no credit, no metadata identifying the tool.

4. Using it responsibly

You are responsible for what you record, edit, and publish. You agree not to use userclip to:

  • Infringe someone else's copyright, trademark, or other rights
  • Record or publish people without whatever consent your jurisdiction requires
  • Create or distribute material that is unlawful where you are
  • Impersonate a real person, or present generated captions as a faithful record of what somebody said when they are not
  • Violate the terms of any platform you connect and post to

We do not monitor your use and technically cannot. That places the responsibility squarely with you.

5. AI models and their output

userclip runs third party machine learning models locally. Each is provided under its own licence, recorded in the project's documentation. Some carry restrictions of their own, and using a model outside its licence is your responsibility, not ours.

Model output is not reliable. Transcription mishears words. Clip selection has no judgement about context, tone, or consequences. Captions can be wrong in ways that change meaning. Review anything before you publish it. Do not use userclip's output where accuracy is legally or medically significant.

6. Third party platforms and services

userclip can download models from Hugging Face and can upload clips to platforms you connect, through its own registered application on each of those platforms.

Those relationships are between you and them. Their terms and privacy policies apply to what happens there, and we have no control over their availability, their pricing, their review processes, or their decisions about your account or your content. A platform changing its API, its rules, or its approval status may stop a feature from working, and that is outside our control.

7. No service, no uptime

There is no userclip service to be up or down. The application runs on your computer, and it keeps working whether or not this website exists, whether or not the project continues, and whether or not you have an internet connection.

We make no commitment to continue development, to publish future versions, or to keep this website online. A copy you have already installed keeps working on your machine whether or not any of that continues.

8. No warranty

userclip is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. That includes, without limitation, any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, or non infringement.

We do not warrant that the application will be uninterrupted, error free, or free of defects, that its output will meet your expectations, or that any defect will be corrected.

Keep your own backups. userclip writes to and deletes from folders you nominate, and includes tools that delete files deliberately. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the project and its maintainer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, nor for any loss of data, footage, profits, revenue, goodwill, or anticipated savings, arising out of or connected with your use of userclip, even if the possibility of such damage was known.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for userclip, which is nothing, or ten United States dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you.

10. Changes to these terms

These terms may be revised. The current version always lives at this address with its effective date at the top. Continuing to use userclip after a revision means you accept it. A version you have already installed keeps working under the terms it shipped with; we cannot and do not reach onto your machine to change anything.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan and of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. If you are a consumer elsewhere, you keep the protections of the mandatory law of the place you live, and nothing here removes them.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.

12. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent to 2iamjrmh@gmail.com.

These terms are written to be read rather than to be impressive, and they are not legal advice. If your use of userclip is commercially significant, have your own lawyer look at them.
